Melissa started riding at the age of 9 years and competed for a few years, in local dressage and jumping competitions, with her pony Good Time Charlie. In her early teens, while riding at Centaur Riding School, Melissa began to focus on dressage and was named Canadian Junior Basic 4 Champion in 1990 with her Centaur-bred mare Solana. Melissa went on to compete at the North American Young Riders Dressage Championships in 1996 (with Spellbound) and in 1998 (with Armani) as a member of the Ontario team. Melissa has her English Coach 1 certification and has taught riders of all levels in dressage and over fences. Currently, Melissa is training some of Centaur's young horses while working full-time as the Program Manager of the C.T. Lamont Primary Health Care Research Centre of the Elisabeth Bruyre Research Institute. Melissa keeps busy participating in many other activities such as running, cycling, swimming, skiing, etc.
